I asked 10 people to choose two pages from these books:
Note that in the versions that were shared with the participants the music video references were omitted.
Each two pages chosen represented frames from two music videos.
I then grouped of all the pages that used frames from the exact same two music videos and sent them to the participants asking them to choose one page from each group. All the music videos are represented here:
The participant’s final sections are here arranged in order of how soon they were completed:
Here’s a spreadsheet with a listing of all the music videos along with what is known about who the artist sampled (before I sampled them)
The color palettes were evolved and then measured using an edited version of this code from Daniel Shiffman’s book The Nature of Code:
I used the Processing project to write all the code:
The successful (because not all music video frames worked) palettes are here:
I’m inspired by Modern Art such as Installation, Color Field and Op Art. I’m a big fan of Bridget Riley, Mike Nelson, Sol LeWitt and Ellsworth Kelly.
I was also inspired by the piles of fruit in this dataset:
About Dataset
Context
A dataset sample of 5k images of ~39 different kinds of highly realistic fruit (from Apple to Zucchini) and 61 YCB classes. Some fruit classes have duly annotated variations such as (Fresh Apple Bite, Half Avocado) and most fruit classes have multiple meshes associated.
Content
The dataset is divided into directories accordingly to each annotation method. Each directory contains 5001 ordered files.
Lit - 5k .png files representing realistic renders
Segmentation - 5k .png files representing pixel perfect segmentation per object
Annotation - 5k .json files representing scene metadata
Depth - 5k .npy files representing scene depth
Resources - Dataset utility files
Protocol
Rendered images are 1280x720 px resolution.
In regards to metadata:
A list of both fruits and YCB objects (as occluder)
Each entry contains object name, its segmentation color, projected center of mass, projected cuboid.
Each randomization cycle has 3 captured sets of data associated from different points of view.
Objects annotated are filtered accordingly to visibility in point of view.
Background Items (Bowl and floor) are not annotated but its Segmentation color is static throughout the whole dataset sample.
Acknowledgments
Synthetic images were generated with Unreal Engine

Searching for “sketchfab low poly pile” on google I found this model:
An instancing example to demo a collection of 20 lowpoly sticks, available on the Store in different file formats and geometry/texture resolutions.
If you don’t feel like giving me your money, don’t worry though: you’ll also find a version of the assets in 150 triangles + 256px albedo and normal maps, available for free here. They are the ones used in that model, and should already give you plenty of creative freedom !
That's one big pile of stick
Was made using this collection:
Another batch of scanned sticks !
The sticks are in .fbx format, and each one is made of 150 triangles, and comes with 256px albedo and normal maps.
If you need high resolution of those props or different file formats, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for on the Store version of this model, which comes with 5 different LODs for each model, the higher ones having 15k triangles and 4096px textures.
I also made a model made of more than 2000 instances of those assets to have an idea of the possible WebGL performance: “That’s one big pile of stick”.
Licensed under CC-attribution: feel free to re-use them with the appropriate credit, and do not hesitate to drop a comment if you used them for your own creations, I’d be happy to know !
Created with love and Open Source tools only: Colmap, OpenMVS, Blender and BakeMyScan.
That discovery was adjacent to this other very inspiring work:
Toolboxes are so 2018. 2019 will be the year of the toolballs. Ba-Dum-Tsss !
This experiment is meant to showcase a collection of rusty tools I recently scanned, and processed into game-ready props. The particle system is made of 1000 instances of 10 different assets (500 triangles and 512px PBR textures for each), and was created in Blender.
The tools are available for free here, but are limited to 500 triangles and 512px PBR maps (as in this experiment).
You should already be able to create cool things out of them, but if you need different LODs of the assets (similar to the ones on this model of a wrench), you can buy the full pack on the store .
The Toolball
Was made using this collection:
A bunch of rusty tools, scanned directly from my toolbox, and optimized to lowpoly PBR props with Open Source tools only: Colmap, OpenMVS, Blender and BakeMyScan !
Should you need them, all the LODs you might ever dream of for this collection are available on the Store:
15k tris - 4096px
5k tris - 2048px
1.5k tris - 1024px
500 tris - 512px (the ones you see here!)
150 tris - 256px
These assets are especially optimized for realtime applications: VR, AR, WebGL, game engines, mobile apps, kitbashing… Here is an example of particle instancing with those props: “The Toolball”.
Licensed under CC-attribution: feel free to re-use them with the appropriate credit, and do not hesitate to drop a comment if you used them for your own creations, I’d be happy to know.
And if you enjoyed those assets, you might find other interesting stuff in this lowpoly collection ;)

A collection of 282 (A.K.A more than you’ll ever need) lowpoly people. Allright. Who cares. Where is waldo?!, that’s the real question!
Automagically remeshing body scans to lowpoly assets (check out my growing collection of free assets!), which can be used for archviz placeholders.
Each model has its origin located at its feet, so that placement in a scene is made easy. However, some refined scaling is probably needed as some children have become giants in the process…
Original scans from @FrancescoPusterla @fablabbudapestitseez3d @jc @my3dworld @justin.levitz @peel-3d.com @deathlessvr @myminimate @3DCap @onepoint @fwild @marpi @conjurer @thor3D @vitronic @3dhubs @codame @benhaim - all licensed under CC-attribution.
A collection of reprocessed scanned animal skulls (other free assets here), initally designed to be used as as game props, particles or for optimized renderings.
BUT: the method I used for remeshing and texture baking was not adapted in this case, and many normal inversions for instance have happened. Moreover, as these assets were batch-processed, I neglected some parts of the material, hence some black zones on the scans…
You can of course still use them for your projects, but know that the quality on those baked models is not that good! Plus 1024px is too few for those complex objects…
Each model is made of 2500 triangles, and 1024 pixels albedo and normal maps.
The original scans were first remeshed with mmgs, and decimated, UV unwrapped and baked in blender. Normal maps are ready to use for Unreal Engine, don’t forget to flip their green channel in Unity!
All the original scans come from the great collection of UVic Libraries - @uviclib .
A collection of lowpoly scanned fruits and vegetables, ready to use in game engines, as particles or for optimized renders. Comes with a demo!
Each model is made of ~1000 triangles, and 1024px albedo and normal maps (jpg).

These assets were generated from scans of beach pebbles and stones I picked up on the shore between Plouguerneau and Roscoff, in France. I did not specifically select extraordinary samples, but rather tried to go for a broad diversity of colors and shapes in order to create an interesting pack.
Each prop in this collection is made of 150 triangles, and comes with 256px albedo and normal maps.
Feel free to check them on the store if you ever need more LODs (or just to have a look!): they come with 5 levels of details, and up to 15k triangles and 4096x4096 textures. You’ll find them bundled in 4 different packs:
And as usual, do not hesitate to let me know if you create something cool out of them :D
Enjoy!
A collection of reprocessed sticks and branches (other free assets here), ready to use as game props, particles or for optimized renderings. Just don’t pretend they’re yours or try to resell them. Any feedback is welcome!
Each model is made of between 1.5k and 2.5k tris, and 1024 pixels albedo and normal maps.
The original scans were remeshed with mmgs, and UV unwrapped and baked in blender. Normal maps are ready to use for Unreal Engine, but don’t forget to flip their green channel in Unity!

This final collection has excellent attribution:
A collection of lowpoly (1500 triangles each) birds, reprocessed in blender from Sketchfab 3D scans and models (have a look at my other similar assets, or at this blog post to know more about the process I used).
Not all of them turned out as I had hoped (because of poor original meshes), and I had to cut some birds legs not to spend too much time removing the supports (branches, rocks…), but I’m still quite happy with the result.
A .fbx as well as a .blend are available in the archive, along with a “credits” file in which you will find all the links to the original models. Most of the original assets come from darwinmuseum.ru and Innovation Studio though, so thanks to them!
Enjoy! :)
